Islam, Hinduism, and Caring

On the 10th…

The Pre-K class talked about how we help others and then made greeting cards to give to the Caring committee.

The K-2 class read a story about an American girl’s Muslim grandmother who lives on the other side of the world, and who hopes for peace. Then we made cards for our own grandparents.

The 3-6 class completed our discussions of Hinduism last week. We did a little yoga (the kids knew more than the teacher!). We talked about the caste system and decided it was hard to meditate with so many others around. Class closed with a great discussion about what questions are really important as inspired by the book, “Really, Really Big Questions About God, Faith, and Religion” by Julian Baggini.

The 7-9th graders and two adults (Marisa and Carolyn) visited the Islamic Center of Manhattan. They gave us an overview of Islam and what it means to be a Muslim in Manhattan.
