January 2019

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
What a wonderful and wonder-filled 2018 we had. Thanks to everyone who made it a glorious year, especially those who showed up for the Mayor’s Holiday Lighted Parade. What a way to end the year!  2019 will surely be just as wonderful.  At the end of January and into early March, we offer Our Whole Lives classes to 4th-6th graders. This extra class allows our pre-teens to gain knowledge about their bodies and respect for themselves and others. Regular religious education classes finish up the winter quarter with lessons on our Christian and Jewish heritage. Spring quarter (March-May) will be all about World Religions. And then the summer hits and I’ll be looking for “tour guides” so all our students can learn more about the world around them.

PARENT NIGHT OUT ENDS
It is with a tinge of sadness that I announce January 4 will be the last Parent Night Out/Kid Night In. Effective February 1 UUFM will no longer hold Parent Night Out/Kid Night In. Declining attendance and limited resources have contributed to this decision. However, if there are 4 or 5 adult volunteers who would like to continue the program, please let me know and I’ll put you all in touch with each other. Also, the idea of morphing the program into a babysitting cooperative has been floated. Let me know if you’re interested in that as well. For the January 4 Parent Night Out, please RSVP to me by Thursday, January 3. dre@uufm.net

OUR WHOLE LIVES (OWL)
Our Whole Lives (OWL) classes for 4th-6th graders will be held mid-January through mid-March. OWL is a respected UU sexual education program. Children learn in an accurate and age appropriate way about human development, relationships, personal skills, sexual behavior, sexual health, and society and culture. The core values are self worth, sexual health, responsibility, justice, and inclusivity.  If you have children in 4th-6th grade and would like to enroll them in OWL, or if you simply have questions about the OWL program, contact Sandy Nelson at 341-0135 or DRE@uufm.net as soon as possible. Also, there’s a lot of great information at: http://www.uua.org/re/owl.

Remember: all children must be registered for the 2018-2019 year and registration forms are available on the RE bulletin board at the end of the hallway as well as online at:  2018-19 Registration Form

See you soon,

Sandy Nelson
