Caring Letter

Dear Friends,

In these days of isolation, some people may be craving interaction and contact.  Others may be simply afraid for their health.  Our Caring Team has been reaching out and contacting some of you, but the needs may be greater than that.  I’m writing to you about two opportunities for regular connection.

First, Judy Nickelson realized she would like someone to touch base with daily, briefly, and wondered if others would as well, so she’s developed a plan for “Just Checking In.”  This might be particularly helpful for someone who lives alone or a couple, one of whom is care-taking for the other.

Here’s how it will work:

Each partner pair will decide

  • a set window of time when they will be in contact
  • who will initiate the contact (Person 1)
  • preferred method of contact (call, text, email, message, etc.)
  • Emergency contact info for each partner

If Person 2 does not hear from Person 1 within the agreed window of time, they should attempt to contact Person 1.

If either person fails to respond to the other person within (reasonable amount of time to be determined by each partner pair), their partner should call their emergency contact person.

If you’d like to be part of “Just Checking In,” you can sign up at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/L6H5VRD.   Judy will match you up with someone, and you will be on your way!

The second opportunity is that Elke Lorenz will host a weekly Zoom meeting, a casual chance to check in with others, Thursdays, 6:30 to 7:30 pm.  If you’d like to be part of that, please email Elke at elkelorenz9@gmail.com.

In these times when we face challenges we cannot predict from day to day, we truly do need one another.  If you have other needs, please let me know. We have people willing to run errands or help and support.  One of the core functions of a religious community is to take care of one another.  Every day I see examples of UUFM members caring for each other.

You are not alone.   We love you,     Jonalu
