Species Belong Together:  We Bless the Animals and They Bless Us

Bring the whole family, and join us for this service for all ages.  Rev Jonalu Johnstone reflects, “Many people feel their greatest sense of belonging and connection with a beloved pet.  We’ll explore that connection and include a blessing of animals.  Bring your well-behaved pets to participate and be blessed.  Or, if your pet is more on the wild side, bring a picture. Stuffed animals welcome too!  We’ll also include remembrances of those pets that have died, so pictures of them are also appropriate.”  Our convener is Diane Barker at dogsbodyd@yahoo.com.

Following the service on October 20, we’ll hold a CONGREGATIONAL MEETING to consider the launch of a ministerial search, and approval of the use of endowment funds for building maintenance.  Learn more

12:15 pm -1:30 pm Congregational Mtg   UUFM, Manhattan KS

The UUFM Board encourages members to attend a Congregational Meeting following the morning service, on Sunday, OCTOBER 20. This meeting has been called to consider two items, which require the input and approval of the congregation before additional steps can be taken.

  1. Following the announcement of Rev Jonalu Johnstone’s retirement when her current contract with UUFM concludes, we will explore options and seek congregational approval to begin the ministerial search process.
  2. We also seek approval to use $14,500 from our endowment to fund much needed repairs to brickwork on the Fellowship building.

4:00 pm -5:30 pm Racial Justice Team - Book Discussion   UUFM, Manhattan KS

The  UUFM Racial Justice Team invites everyone to join in a book discussion on Sunday, September 29, October 6, 13, and 20, from 4 to 5:30 pm, at the Fellowship.  Join us to explore Just Mercy, by Bryan Stevenson (www.uuabookstore.org/Just-Mercy-P17700.aspx), the 2015/2016 UUA Common Read.  Attend all four sessions, or join us for one or more sessions which are convenient for you.  On October 20, we’ll explore ways to put our newfound knowledge to practical use.

Just Mercy is a powerful true story about the potential for mercy to redeem us, and a clarion call to fix our broken system of justice.  Learn more from Judy Nickelson at judynickelson@gmail.com.
