Beyond King: The Work that Remains

We’re joined by Rev Sarah Oglesby-Dunegan, from the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Topeka.  To best celebrate the life and work of Rev Dr Martin Luther King we must engage in the work left undone–the work that is and has been waiting for us.  This work includes organizing and building a movement of the poor and working class as well as the work of dismantling white supremacy in ourselves and in our institutions.  This work is not always clear and never easy. It is often uncomfortable.  This work asks us to examine our allegiances and be willing to ask questions that have complicated and unpopular answers, like “Why are our schools and neighborhoods still so segregated?” and “Who benefits the most when we are divided?” and “What happens to immigrants after they cross the US border or overstay a VISA?”  Reverend Sarah invites us to consider what we are willing to do to finish the work of Rev Dr King.  As the National Union of the Homeless says, “You only get what you’re organized to take.”  Katie Kingery-Page, at kingerypage@gmail.com, convenes.
