The Green New Deal and Beyond (video available)

Stan Cox, Research Fellow in Ecosphere Studies at The Land Institute, in Salina, Kansas, discusses the issues raised in his most recent book, The Green New Deal and Beyond:  Ending the Climate Emergency While We Still Can (City Lights, 2020).  The “New Deal” part of the Green New Deal is good, with economic safety nets, health care guarantees, and economic and racial justice (and it’s even more timely now with a pandemic, an economic collapse, and the national awakening on race).  But the “Green” part lacks the most crucial element of all: a direct mechanism to drive fossil fuel use down to zero by a strict deadline.  Cox is urging a set of policies that would achieve that goal.  Our convener is Dick Beeman at rbeeman@cox.net.
