September Board Update

Dear Beloved Community,

An update from the Board after our August Board Meeting, held on August 17th, 2023:

OPEN LEADERSHIP POSITIONS

There is still a great need to fill certain open leadership positions. The Board has recruited the Stewardship Lead, Judy Nickelson, to take leadership in finding volunteers amongst our membership to fill these important roles. The most urgent ones remain the following:

Assistant Treasurer – our current Treasurer, Dan Swenson, will be finishing out his second term as Treasurer at the end of this fiscal year. Our bylaws do not allow him to continue in this role after two terms. We need at least one, but ideally two people to begin training as assistant treasurer with Dan ASAP to ensure a smooth transition. Moving forward, we would like there to be a team of three people in a given area of leadership. In the case of Treasurer: an outgoing treasurer that is available for consultation, an active Treasurer that has ownership of the role and responsibilities, and an incoming Assistant Treasurer that trains with and provides assistance to the active Treasurer.

Building Lead – Dan Swenson and Mark Mayfield are available to provide guidance and support, but we do not have and are in great need of someone to take on the role of Building Lead.

If you are interested in any of these positions or would like more information, please contact Judy Nickelson at judynickelson@gmail.com

HIRING STAFF

Bookkeeper: Our bookkeeping hire fell through, so this position is still open. Our treasurer, Dan, and Sandy, who has been assisting with bookkeeping duties, will be re-evaluating the job description before a new search is launched.

Music Director: the team designated to determine the job description and initiate the search and hiring process has started to meet and provided an update on their progress – so far primarily in the area of establishing a job description. More soon.

BOARD TRAINING AND RETREAT

Your Board is on schedule to complete the UUA Congregational Board Training modules in September.

We have rescheduled our Board Retreat to occur on September 16th, 2023. We are excited to come together and reflect upon where we’ve been, where we are, and where we see our community going in our ongoing pursuit of the UUFM Mission and Vision. We will be setting our goals for the year, and will share them with you in a future update.

All the best to you on behalf of the UUFM Board,

Emily Fraser
Board Chair
