Rev Jonalu Johnstone presents this service. Religion writer Karen Armstrong describes compassion as “the principled determination to put ourselves into the place of the other.” Further, she claims compassion “lies at the heart of all truly religious and ethical systems.” Both the Jewish and Christian admonition to “Love your neighbor as yourself,” and the Dalai Lama’s proclamation, “My religion is kindness,” tell us the value of compassion. Yet, if it were as easy as that, the world would look a lot different. How do we nurture compassion for others in ourselves? How do we teach it to our children? How do we encourage and support all to be compassionate? Our convener is Elke Lorenz at elkelorenz9@gmail.com.
