The Beautiful Expanding Universe

About 100 years ago we learned that the universe is expanding – the so-called big bang. Professor Bharat Ratra, recipient of the American Physical Society’s 2025 Lilienfield Prize, will reflect on the differences in the distribution of matter on large spatial scales and small spatial scales and the relative strengths of the gravitational and electric forces on large and small spatial scales that, in Einstein’s general theory of relativity, results in this observed cosmological expansion.
