Disrespectful

It’s not always a bad thing to be disrespectful! Hannah will draw on Myles Bell’s NSDA Original Oratory “Disrespectful?” to discuss how we set expectations for how people will act as we go through our lives. Especially within activist spaces, being authentically yourself is important even when that’s not deemed “socially correct.” In order to truly live into our vision as a vibrant and inclusive safe haven, how can we become more cognizant of habitual judgements we make and let them go?

Hannah Morgan Phelps is K-State Communication Studies Master’s student studying rhetoric and has served as UUFM’s Office and Communications Coordinator since July 2023. They focus on the nitty gritty aspects of our communication – newsletters, social media posts, and volunteer reminders – but hold a wealth of knowledge for bigger-picture questions such as: How do we present ourselves as an organization? How do our habits and practices welcome or turn away visitors, particularly those from marginalized groups? While not a regular contributor to our Sunday Services, we are excited to welcome Hannah to swap hats this week and bring together their multiple professional pursuits.
