Note from Pastor Isa – October 2026

The Courage to Live the Question

This month, we lean into the UU values of transformation and pluralism, striving to be open to change and willing to learn from one another. Living in this way means accepting we don’t have all the answers. While there’s no denying the basic uncertainty of life, to accept this reality takes courage. As you reflect on your own life – and as you read our Board update below and reflect on the life of the Fellowship – I invite you to seek questions rather than answers. Here are some categories of questions you might ask yourself, your loved ones, and your community:

  1. Questions that elicit awe, doubt, mystery, and wonder
  2. Questions that arise from brokenness, despair, and disaster
  3. Questions that reflect calling, discernment, and ethics

In my experience, faithful attention to deep questions such as these reveals the beliefs and values one needs in order to move forward in life, even when there are no clear answers or solutions.

The words of the Rev. Wayne B. Arnason may help you to dwell in the questions and allow the answers to come in their own time:

Take courage friends.

The way is often hard, the path is never clear,

and the stakes are very high.

Take courage.

For deep down, there is another truth:

you are not alone.
