Now a doctrinal concept in mainstream economics, the word “scarcity” comes from the Latin verb excarpe which combines ex (out) and carpere (to pluck, gather, or harvest). Its etymological history shows how scarcity can so easily transform a sense of choice and abundance into an attitude of fear and competition. What happens when we get curious, instead of scared, when faced with limitations? This service reflects Pastor Isabel’s ongoing work to integrate their economics training and their commitment to decolonization.
