Note From Pastor Isa – December 2022

Stillness, Wonder, Commitment

When I spoke to our December Conveners about Wonder, our theme for the month, they lit up. It was beautiful to watch people remembering their experience of childish awe when encountering things for the first time, or watching others do so. Though we were all adults, we felt like children, remembering moments of exploration — walking through the woods to find a perfect autumn leaf and marveling in its color, pattern, and texture. One person remarked that before she had children, she had no idea how much she had missed play as a gateway to wonder. Another recalled how a childhood fascination with bugs is the foundation of his career as an entomologist.

I am excited about our month of activities and Sunday Services and activities. All of you will have a chance to reconnect with the contagious and healing power of wonder!

I wonder (pun intended): what lights you up? What do you love doing in this wild, precious, complex world we share? I encourage you to get out a pen and paper and write down some answers to the question. What activities do you love? What makes you more alive, more you?

Please, dig into these questions for a moment before reading on…

Now, rooted in what you love, calling up a sense of wonder and joy, listen to this: We need your joyful presence and participation here at the Fellowship. In fact we need some pretty specific wonder-filled labors of love. Do you think any of these activities could light YOU up?

  • Serving meals and helping others do the same? Well, we need a new Lead Coordinator for our Happy Kitchen program!
  • Letting people know the awesome things happening at the Fellowship? Well, you’re in luck! We need a Communication Assistant to work with Lead Marisa Larson.
  • Creating a beautiful Sunday Morning experience for the people who join us on Zeandale and Zoom? Great! We need a Sunday Services Assistant to work with me and Co-Leads Rob Morrison and Sarah Desmet.

What else would light you up? We’ll help you find the fuel for your fire of wonder.
Job descriptions for these positions are at https://uufm.net/fellowship-operations/

As you look around for new sources of wonder, are you finding that your current responsibilities at the Fellowship have become too routine? Then it’s probably time to find someone else to train as the new Lead in that area of Fellowship operations. Let me know and I’ll work with you to write up a job description and get the word out.

We are a committed group of people. We owe it to ourselves and those around us to bring wonder into the work we do here together. We need you to light up when you arrive at the building or log onto our Google Drive! We need to marvel at our collective creations, delight in each other’s ingenuity, and gasp at the innovations that are possible only through collaboration.

With love and a spark of fun,

                 Pastor Isa
