This Sunday, we explore our monthly theme of Belonging through the practice of home-making. When setting up a home, we arrange our belongings to give ourselves a sense of a place. Similarly, self reflection allows us to organize our inner worlds so that we can be at home with ourselves. But these efforts to bring order to our lives always fall short. As the poet Jalaleddin Rumi insists: This being human is a guest house, with many unexpected visitors who mess up our tidy arrangements. While it is helpful and satisfying to make a home, our higher calling is to find belonging in the present moment regardless of external conditions or the extent of our personal efforts. What helps you to know that you are exactly where you need to be right now, even if you never would have chosen this location?
