THANKS
Thanks to everyone for providing a fun summer of “travel” for our students. Our “tours” included the Patagonia region of Chile (Susan Adamchak); China (Elke Lorenz); printmaking (Katie Kingery-Page and Lindsay Smith); Eukaryotic Cells (Taryn Cipra); Snack Chip ChampionChip (Sandy Nelson); our imagination (Cathy Hedge); Mt. Whitney (Clara and Mark Mayfield); inside your body (Jen Thomsen); and The Gambia (Lily Colburn). We even did a field trip to Pillsbury Crossing where we got to canoe and kayak (Larry Weaver, Dan Swenson, Molly McGaughey). Your enthusiasm and participation in the religious education program is much appreciated.
We close out the summer program on September 1 with a quiet welcome home session. It’s Labor Day Weekend so we’ll labor a bit by cleaning classrooms and then cool off with water play and ice pops.
FALL AND BEYOND
Formal classes begin Sunday, September 8 with a “getting to know you” introduction, our annual safety drills, and ice cream for the whole congregation after the service. We’ll continue to use themes this year as each class explores its own curriculum. Our quarterly, rotating curriculum starts with Unitarian Universalism. Second quarter (December-February) all classes examine our Jewish and Christian Heritage. Third quarter we cover World Religions. And fourth quarter will be our summer program.
By including the full rotation within one year, the RE program is easier to manage for volunteer teachers. You could pick one of the three topics and commit to teaching for just a few months (or even a few weeks) – not the whole year! We could use a few more helpers in class. If you’re interested, please let me know.
We’re still sorting out the fall schedule for the teen group (7th-12th grade), but it will be heavy on Neighboring Faiths and monthly field trips.
OWL IS COMING!

3RD SUNDAY TEEN LUNCH
All teens (7th grade and up) are invited to gather for lunch after the service, on the third Sunday of each month. Bring $5 to cover lunch. Bring a friend! Learn more from Sandy at 341-0135 or dre@uufm.net.
LOOKING FOR TEACHERS
To keep the education program running smoothly, we need about a dozen folks to help as classroom leaders. Class plans are provided. Older teens are encouraged to offer their time as well as adults. (High School volunteer hours can be given.) With 12 helpers, the commitment is only two Sundays per year. Please consider this important role. Learn more from Sandy at 341-0135 or dre@uufm.net.
WE’RE HIRING!
Are you someone who would like to spend a couple of hours with our youngest UUs? We need nursery attendants. If a constant gig is too much, consider just once a month. Or maybe you know someone who is looking for just a few hours a week. $12 per hour, 2 hour per Sunday.
