Many Unitarian Universalists understand Love to be our core shared value, but for others it is a vague and amorphous concept — especially when we think about people who cause harm. Is it really faithful to love them? To open our month’s theme of Liberating Love, Pastor Isa introduces love as a practice, rather than a feeling. But as people who resist oppression and hate, the practice of love must be complemented by a practice of vision. Sometimes, love asks us not to accept what is, but to envision what is possible.
