August 2017 Treasurer’s Report

A new year is underway. The Fellowship’s fiscal year is June 1 to May 31. June was a big month for pledge income. As Treasurer, that gives me confidence that it’s going to be a great year.

This week I’m reading Growing A Beloved Community by Tom Owen-Towle. In it he writes about many aspects of Congregational life. On Stewardship he writes:

“Stewards always remember that their position as stakeholders is temporary. They co-shepherd a parish for a while, while they have it on loan. Stewards are not possessors; they don’t own a church any more than they own a piece of land. They are simply the blessed recipients of a singular period in history. Stewards have been assigned a watch. They are entrusted with our UU legacy in the place where it comes to them. To handle it with exceeding reverence and care, to shape it while allowing it to shape them, and then to keep the gift moving Stewards keep vows, keep the books, keep resources flowing, and maintain historical records. Stewards are steadfast servants through thick and thin, through personal regrets, event through dislikes and defeats, because their loyalty is never to eras or trends or personalities alone.”

Thank you for being steadfast stewards,  Kathleen
